Measured vs estimated

Every number in Agent Number 10 is one of two kinds, and the product labels which.

Counted directly from the source:

  • Citations and mentions in AI answers, read from the answers themselves.
  • Clicks, impressions and positions from your Search Console.
  • Visits from your Google Analytics.
  • Ranking positions: checked live on Google for the keywords you track, and from a regularly updated search index for everything else the site ranks for.
  • Issues found by crawling your pages.
  • Fixes confirmed on the live site.

Modelled from other data:

  • Organic traffic, from ranking positions and search volume.
  • Search volume and search demand, from Google search data.
  • Traffic value, what the organic traffic would cost as ads.

Estimates are useful for direction and for comparing sites, but they are not counts. When a measured figure exists for the same thing, such as Search Console clicks next to estimated traffic, trust the measured one.

A few numbers are our own composites, such as the AEO score and SEO visibility. Each is labelled as a score, and the glossary says exactly what goes into it.
